Job Posting: Summary of Essential Job Duties: The Surgical Technician III (ST III) is under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and is considered an expert level. The Surgical Technician is assigned technical duties, assists with procedures and has the responsibility to ensure smooth team work through application of knowledge and effective communication with the Registered Nurse, the patient, the surgeon, the anesthesiologist ancillary personnel, and other health care team members. The ST serves in preceptor role and actively participates in Performance Improvement Projects. The Surgical Technician provides care consistent with Nursing Standards of Care/Practice, Plan for Provision of Nursing Care, Plan for Provision of Care of Patients, CSMC Code of Conduct, Performance Improvement Plan, Patient Education Plan, and Professional Organization Standards. The Surgical Technician maintains competency skills including the ability to provide care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds. He/she identifies the ability of the adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients to follow directions/instructions and give consent. He/she identifies safety concerns in the age related population; institutes additional protective measures to provide a safe environment, and identifies normal growth and development milestones in neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technicians and ability to verify on the job training of participating institution. License/Certification/Registration Requirements: Certification preferred Current certification Basic Life Support (Health Care Provider) from the American Heart Association Experience: Minimum of three (3) years operating room experience and meets criteria of Surgical Technician III. Performs independently in minimum of three (3) specialties. Full command (verbal and written) of the English language, sufficient to carry out the duties identified in this job description. Adapts well and is flexible to changing situations. Identifies appropriate resources as needed. Demonstrates effective communication/team work skills, a commitment to customer service, and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues.
