Available Schedules: 1st and 2nd shift openings available; may consider overnight 11pm-7:30am.
1st Shift: Flexible scheduling; can do 4 10-hour shifts or 2 12-hour and 2 8-hour shifts
2nd Shift: 3pm-11:30pm
Responsibilities:
Anticipates the needs of the surgeon, which include passing instruments, sutures and other items appropriate to the procedure. Assists the surgeon by retracting tissue, holding instrumentation to provide exposure, and cutting suture under the direct supervision of the surgeon.
Establishes and maintains an organized sterile field. Selects proper sterilization methods for instruments and equipment, sterilizes prior to procedure, and verifies instruments are sterile.
Adheres to policies and procedures in aseptic techniques. Takes corrective action when any unsafe practice, conditions or break in aseptic technique is observed and reports information to the circulating nurse.
Assists with pulling cases, checks case cart for completeness, obtains supplies and equipment, and determines them to be in good working order before a case begins.
Prepares the operating room by opening sterile supplies, instruments and sutures based on scheduled procedure and surgeon preference card.
Performs scrub assistance for all procedures.
Assists the circulating nurse with implementing a plan of care to include positioning, confirmation of operative site, updating physician preference cards, care of specimens, and room turnover.
Accounts for instruments, trays and implants before, during and after the case. Begins sterilizing process while in the surgical suite by counting for completeness of tray and initiating cleansing/sterilizing process.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion/graduate of an New Jersey-approved/accredited program for Surgical Technicians.
One year of work experience in healthcare surgical services preferred. Specialty surgical services may require specific training, experience, knowledge and skills.
Certification from nationally recognized body for Surgical Technician preferred and encouraged.
