Graduate of an accredited school for Surgical Technology preferred
First Assistant Certification or Certified Surgical Assistant Certification
No Previous Experience Required
1-2 years of position-related experience preferred
BLS obtained through the American Heart Association
ACLS obtained through the American Heart Association preferred
Knowledge/Skill in Vein Harvesting preferred
Job Summary:
The First Assistant Surgical Tech works under the direct supervision of the surgeon to facilitate the procedure and process of surgery. First Assistant Surgical Techs are expected to prepare and position the patient for surgery, assist in visualization of the operating field, provide hemostasis, harvest surgical grafts, perform closure of incisions, and apply various wound dressings in accordance with the surgeonâ™s preference. S/he is responsible for working collaboratively with the entire surgical team to monitor sterile integrity of the surgical field, ensure all surgical counts are correct and relay necessary information to other members of the team to ensure appropriate patient care is delivered.
