POSITION SUMMARY:40 hours per week 7am-7:30pm up to $6,000 sign on bonus!
To perform a variety of duties which assist the surgeon in carrying out a safe surgical procedure with optimal results for the patient. To function as an integral member of the Operating Room team and contribute to maintaining a professional, respectful and effective patient care and work environment.
Ensures the availability and preparedness of supplies and equipment needed to support efficient and effective peri- and intraoperative processes.
Ensures that all necessary supplies and equipment have been assembled prior to procedure
Prepares operating room back table prior to procedure
Ensures integrity of instruments and packaging prior to use
Collaborates with specialty physicians to acquire new/special equipment for procedures
Inventories and restocks implants as needed
Provides assistance to the surgeon and other members of the operative team throughout the operative process to facilitate optimal patient outcomes: verifies correct patient/correct procedure, assists with patient transfers, preps and drapes the patient, positions patient to prevent injury, assists anesthesia with intubation process, and accurately anticipates need for instrumentation and passes instruments to surgeon.
Operates specialty equipment including laser and cell saver, after appropriate training
Accounts accurately for irrigant usage
Appropriately labels and accurately monitors medication usage during procedure
Prepares sponges, needles, etc. for counts
Maintains strict sterile technique during procedure
Reports unusual observations regarding patient status to appropriate member of surgical team
Provides a safe and efficient environment for the patient
Submits and documents specimens
Carries out all patient interactions in a manner which considers the age-specific needs of the patient
Assists in maintaining an environment which consistently meets all safety, infection control and quality control standards.
Ensures a professional, respectful and effective patient care and working environment through consistent use of appropriate interpersonal and communication skills.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word. Essential functions include activities in which incumbent must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to patients, physicians, families and other employees accurately, loudly or quickly.
Ability to plan and perform diversified duties requiring basic knowledge of a variety of clinical tasks and the use of a wide range of procedures. Involves some exercise of judgment in the analysis of facts and conditions regarding individual problems or transactions to determine what actions should be taken within the limits of standard practice.
Ability to proceed alone following standard practices for routine procedures, referring questions or problems to supervisor.
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with adult patients age 18 and over, geriatric patients, occasional infants, pediatric and adolescent patients, families, coworkers, physicians, and staff from other departments.
Understands and complies with hazardous waste rules in accordance with local, state and federal regulations, which may include training for appropriate handling and disposal of hazardous wastes
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate/student of an approved Surgical Technologist Program or experience as a Surgical Technician.
Licensure/ Certification: Surgical Technologist certification preferred. BLS certification required. Medical Technician Certification from the State of New Hampshire required.
Schedule: Work schedule may include 3-12 or 4-10 hours per day with weekend coverage based on unit needs. Personnel are expected to cover for absences by rotating or working extra shifts. Personnel are assigned to one area upon employment, but may be required to assume assignments in other areas to meet patient needs.
