Under the direction of surgical charge nurse, performs less complicated surgical technician duties utilizing specialized knowledge acquired through formal training. This position is assigned surgical technician support to surgical areas within UC San Diego Health. Duties also include ordering, stocking, and verification of specialty equipment, supplies, and tracking inventory (type, quantity and expiration dates), contacting surgeons concerning equipment and supply needs for complex cases, communicating with related buyers and vendors and other staff concerning their service, contacting surgical supply companies and their vendors about malfunctioning or broken equipment, and providing continuing education in-service to staff. Management and processing of hazardous materials, disposable and non-disposable equipment and instruments per protocol and regulations. Performs other related tasks as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of accredited Surgical Technologist training/institution or equivalent.
BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within (6) six months of hire date.
Prior Surgical Technician experience.
One (1+) or more years of operating room experience (outpatient and/or inpatient).
Demonstrated knowledge of surgical instrumentation used in various surgical procedures.
Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Excellent and effective communication skills, patient experience, and positive attitude.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year previous Surgical Technician experience in vascular & endovascular surgery cases.
Lean Six Sigma and/or project management experience.
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Availability of a minimum of (8) eight shifts per month (which includes a minimum of (1) one shift per week must be provided monthly (two months in advance).
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
Must be able to work overtime as required.
Pay Transparency Act Full Salary Range: $81,996 - $81,996 Annually
