GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The instructor/clinical coordinator must be responsible for all aspects of the clinical experiences, including organization, administration, continuous review and revision, planning for and development of evolving clinical practice skills, and general effectiveness of clinical experience. The instructor/clinical coordinator coordinates students' clinical assignments, ensures clinical site compliances are met, maintains clinical related documentation, and verifies students' clinical performance by conducting on-site clinic visits to various hospitals. The instructor/clinical coordinator also serves as a point of contact for the clinic site. The instructor/clinical coordinator will assume other responsibilities within the program such as ordering and maintaining of lab supplies as well as administrative duties and instruction in the classroom, laboratory and in clinical sites. This position is a full-time faculty appointment with program administrative duties.

• Coordinate clinical education
• Provide administration, organization, and supervision of the student clinical experience
• Ensure accurate documentation of the evaluation and progression of clinical performance leading to clinical competence
• Provide continuous quality review and improvement of student clinical experience
• Provide academic oversight, including curriculum planning and development of student clinical experience
• Ensure orientation to the program's requirements of the personnel who supervise or instruct students at clinical sites

• Have regular and consistent contact with students and hospital contacts at clinic sites.
• Ensure clinic contracts are up to date and students meet the requirements for each site.
• Develop and assess lab/lecture/clinical competencies according to the Accreditation Review Council on Education for Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA) accreditation standards.
• Effectively organize, teach, and revise course work in accordance with syllabi, including various delivery formats, methods, work schedules, and locations.
• Possess the ability to organize and present various concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities, and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
• Manage a classroom setting in a manner that is acceptable and consistent with department and College objectives, guidelines, policies and practices.
• Assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.
• Assist in the process of requesting and maintaining instructional equipment and supplies for classroom/laboratory use.
• Assist the Program Director with curriculum planning and development of courses.
• Assist the Program Director with accreditation site visits and annual reports.
• Work with the Program Director to ensure that student clinical experiences are coordinated with their didactic and laboratory education.
• Participate in program advisory committee meetings.
• Maintain established office hours.
• Assist with program conferences as needed.
• Evaluate and report student performance and progress.
• Regularly engage in professional development activities and actively seek information about developing trends and ideas.
• Participate in departmental and college wide meetings and activities.
• The didactic/clinical faculty with instructional responsibilities in core surgical technology courses should pursue ongoing formal training designed to maintain and upgrade professional and instructional capabilities.

Position involves sitting and/or standing most of the time in a classroom/laboratory setting. Constant (67-100%) reaching, standing, walking, lifting, dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions and viewing various types of close visual work. Frequent (34-66% ) stooping, kneeling, crouching. Travel to other on-campus facilities and clinic sites. Occasional (10-33%) lifting up to 50 pounds.
May potentially be subject to bio-hazardous waste, hazardous chemicals, moveable mechanical parts, fumes, odors, dusts and mists.
It is expected that faculty teaching in clinical settings comply with HIPAA, OSHA, CPR, immunizations as outlined in clinic contracts.

• Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency
• Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA)
• Have a minimum of three years of documented experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years.
• BCLS certification
• Must have valid Iowa Driver's license and own vehicle to travel to off-campus locations.

• Bachelor's Degree
• Four + years working as a surgical technologist in the operating room setting\.
• Experience as a preceptor for surgical technology students.
