The Surgical Tech/Endoscopy Supervisor, under the guidance of the physician and Registered Nurse, works collaboratively with the nursing staff, medical staff and all members of the health care team; demonstrates professionalism through communication, is responsible for the care and safety of patients who come under his/her care. The Surgical Tech/Endoscopy Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the success of the unit's Endoscopy techs and assisting them to become proficient and competent members of the team. They are responsible for procurement of bids for equipment, as well as monitoring for equipment conflicts. The Supervisor facilitates the flow of operations of endoscopy techs related to equipment and supplies. The Supervisor also coordinates in-services on new equipment, oversees technical training, provides support for scheduling, hiring and onboarding, etc.
Essential Duties:â¢Demonstrates current knowledge of anatomy and Endoscopy procedures and applies that knowledge in preparing equipment, supplies and instrumentation for assigned procedures.â¢Supervises electrical/laser/radiology and correct site surgery safety standards are followed.â¢Maintains and disinfects all GI/Endoscopy equipment, scopes (includes reprocessing), and supplies in accordance to department policy, procedures, and standards.â¢Effectively utilize procedure software, including inputting information in Endo-Pro system, distribute reports, and room/procedure utilization.â¢Effectively utilize travel and stationary carts for Endoscopy Procedures.â¢Maintains inventory control and ordering of needed supplies.â¢Perform basic troubleshooting for monitors and equipment and reports defective equipment and equipment malfunctions appropriately/immediately.â¢Maintain established departmental policies, procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards.â¢Assists with patient preparation for procedure, including patient positioning and monitoring.â¢Provides proper set-up of equipment/supplies for Endoscopy procedure.â¢Assists Physician with specimen collection/biopsy.â¢Assists Physician and Registered Nurse as Circulator with providing required equipment during procedure.â¢Transports patients in a safe manner, with side rails up to ensure patient flow and safety.â¢Effectively turns over procedure room in a timely manner and prepares for alternate Endoscopy procedures.â¢Follows policies, Title 22 and The Joint Commission Standards.â¢Provides for orientation, training and continuing education of staff who provide technical assistance during procedures.â¢Collaborates with Endoscopy nurse supervisors with scheduling procedures. Proactively reviews schedule in advance to avoid possible resource conflicts.â¢Assists in resolving conflicts with supplies and equipment issues. Proactively ensures adequate par levels for endoscopy.â¢Updates preference cards utilizing Cerner/Surgient system.â¢Displays leadership abilities and sound clinical skills in promoting the professional growth and retention of endoscopy tech personnel.â¢Displays understanding of governing regulations, such as hospital policies, Title 22 and The Joint Commission Standards.â¢Keeps unitâs endoscopy tech staff up to date on current issues.â¢Assists with annual budget. Makes recommendations that enhance resources utilization within the department. Resources utilization will include, but not be limited to, supply utilization, finance utilization, inventory reduction or human resources utilization.â¢Act as liaison between nursing, anesthesia, operating room technicians, surgeons and all other ancillary services.â¢Assign staff to maintain specialty carts on a continuous basis. Supplies are maintained at par level, organized, cleaned and outdates disposed of.â¢Oversee staff to be sure endoscopy suites are organized and prepared daily. Monitor to be sure instruments/equipment/supplies are removed and returned to appropriate location when procedure is completed.â¢Facilitates the smooth flow of the endoscopic intervention.â¢Participates actively in PI activities.â¢Performs other duties as assigned.Qualifications:â¢Req High school or equivalentâ¢Req Specialized/technical training Completion of a G.I./Endoscopy program or an accredited Surgical Technician programâ¢Pref Bachelor's degreeâ¢Req 2 years GI Lab/Endoscopy experienceâ¢Req 1 year Advanced endoscopy ( i.e. ERCP) procedure experienceRequired Certifications:â¢Req Surgical Technologist - CST or Surgery-Certified Credential (TS-C) from CAAHEP or ABHES certificationâ¢Req Basic Life Support (BLS)â¢Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)The hourly rate range for this position is $33.00 - $54.02.
