The role you’ll contribute:
Reporting to the Director Surgical Services and OR manager, the Surgical Scrub Tech/First Assist is responsible for assisting the surgical team by acting as the primary scrub person who handles the instruments, supplies and equipment during surgical procedures. The Surgical Tech/First Assist maintains constant vigilance for the maintenance of the sterile field. In addition, the Surgical Tech will serve as the scrub for all surgical cases in the department. Scrubs surgical cases and performs tasks as necessary for the efficient and effective functioning of the operating room, as well as the delivery of quality care. Also, performs a variety of non-nursing functions. All duties are performed in accordance with established departmental and Hospital policies and procedures. The position actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all, while implementing the principles of AdventHealth.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
·Utilizes physician preference cards to set up operating suites. May update and route cards appropriately, when instructed
·Determines appropriate surgical equipment and supplies, based on physician’s preference
·Achieves temporary and permanent hemostasis by applying appropriate techniques
·Assists with body plane closures, wound dressing applications, and securing drainage systems
·Positions patients appropriately, uses stabilizing equipment when necessary, and prioritizes patient comfort and safety
·Provides visualization for operative sites by applying appropriate methods, which includes tissue manipulation, retraction, sponging, suction, and irrigation
·Assists team with safe and appropriate operating room turnover times in an efficient and organized manner
·Supervises other healthcare team members in the surgical environment
·Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
·Graduate of an accredited First Assist school upon hire
·Minimum 5 years of experience as a scrub technician or first assist in a multi-specialty setting required upon hire
·Current American Heart Association BLS certification or RQI upon hire
·Current Surgical Technician First Assist certification upon hire
·Eight hours of Hip & Knee replacement/Spine surgery education within 6 months of hire, then annually
