JOB SUMMARY
The Surgical Technologist I (ST I) assists the surgical team in operative procedures utilizing proper aseptic technique. The ST I has current knowledge of equipment, suture, and procedures being performed. The ST I demonstrates personal and professional effectiveness.
This position is exclusively for individuals grandfathered under Texas Health and Safety Code Title 4, Subtitle B, Chapter 259.002(a)(3).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Licensure/Specialized Training:
Note: Surgical Technologists are required to hold and maintain certification as a Surgical Technologist by the Texas Health and Safety Code Title 4, Subtitle B, Chapter 259.002(a)(1) (see Surgical Technologist II job description)
Surgical Technologists employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before Sept. 1, 2009 are grandfathered under Texas Health and Safety Code Title 4, Subtitle B, Chapter 259.002(a)(3). They are not required to successfully complete an accredited educational program for surgical technologists and hold and maintain certification as a surgical technologist to be employed as a surgical technologist on or after Sept. 1, 2009.

Licensure/Certification: Grandfathered see above note
Work Experience: Must be employed by Harris Health System prior to Sept. 1, 2009 to hold this title - see above.
Equipment Operated: Surgical equipment and instruments.
