Our surgical department is one of the largest in the country, with more than 62 state-of-the-art operating suites in multiple locations. Surgical technologists are important members of the care team. At UAB Medicine, a surgical tech works alongside nurses, certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs), anesthesiologists, and world-renowned surgeons to maintain and prepare instrumentation and equipment, helping cases run efficiently and allowing us to provide the highest quality of care. Although technical expertise is important, a surgical tech must also be compassionate, meet the needs of patients, and treat them like they are family. We support our new techs through a comprehensive orientation process, as well as robust training and development opportunities.
