University Hospitals East is committed to enhancing the quality of care provided to patients. The Surgical Technologist (ST) functions as an integral member of a team of care providers in the operating rooms of the Perioperative Services, who reflect a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The team, consisting of the registered nurse, perioperative technician, anesthesia technician, anesthesiologist, and surgeon provides patient care and supportive services that are directed toward achievement of patient care outcomes, improving service levels, reducing the length of hospitalization and decreasing costs. The Department of Perioperative Services, located on the fourth floor, north wing, consist of 10 operating rooms. The 2nd floor area consists of 4 operating rooms, endoscopy suite, and combined Pre-Op/PACU area. The operating rooms are staffed 5:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Surgical patient care after hours and on weekends is covered by on call.
Minimum Qualifications: Must be a high school graduate or possess the GED, and must have completed formal Surgical Technology Training Program. Previous experience in the operating room as Surgical Technologist is preferred.
On going: Demonstrates competency to meet essential job functions. Maintains knowledge related to patient care issues, quality improvement and cost reduction, current policies, procedures, and protocols. Meets mandatory educational and health requirements.
