The Surgical Technologist functions as an integral member of a team of care providers on a patient care unit who reflect a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The team, consisting of the Patient Care Coordinator (PCC-RN), Anesthesia Technician (AT) and the Unit Clerical Associate (UCA) provides patient care and supportive services that are directed toward successful achievement of patient care outcomes, maximizing the patients involvement in their own plan of care, improving services levels, reducing the length of hospitalization and decreasing costs. Position Summary
The Surgical Technologist (ST) is an unclassified professional staff position. The ST works under the general supervision of the Perioperative Manager and the direct supervision of the PCC-RN, performing technical skills related to intraoperative patient care, using established nursing policies and procedures. The ST performs direct and indirect perioperative nursing tasks for pediatric and adult patients having surgical and endoscopy procedures. The primary focus of this position is the scrub person role. Under the supervision of an operating room Charge Nurse the ST performs basic operating room materials services tasks. Under the direct supervision of a credentialed surgeon, the ST performs second assisting duties during the surgical procedure.
The ST performs all tasks in a manner that is cost effective without compromising quality of care, meets hospital continuing education and certification requirements upholds Nursing Services philosophy and objectives, contributes to organizational effectiveness, and demonstrates career growth and development. The ST works rotating shifts as assigned by the Nurse Manager. Call is assigned on a rotating basis.
Minimum Qualifications
High School graduate or equivalent and must have completed a formal Surgical Technology Training Program or the equivalent. Certified Surgical Technologist. 1 year of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.
