Job Summary:
This position involves delivery of nursing care based upon nursing process as well as some supervision and coordination of nursing personnel activities according to the hospital's policies and procedures. In addition to Perioperative role, this position will prepare operating rooms for surgery using appropriate techniques. Provides technical services and assists in operating room, Endoscopy Suite, and Sterile Processing as assigned and directed.
Position Shift:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the surgical team during the operative procedure.
- Knowledge of sterile technique and maintenance of sterility of surgical field.
- Ability to circulate all operative cases independently.
- Ability to care for patient in PACU in the immediate postoperative period.
- Completes perioperative record accurately and completely.
- Charges accurately for items used in the operating room.
- Prepares rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment.
- Assists the surgical team during operative procedures.
- Opens sterile supplies and sets up for procedures.
- Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning. Monitors and restocks supplies.
- Drapes patients for surgical procedures.
- Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies.
- Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs.
- Consistently provides accurate and complete handoff communication to any healthcare provider according to hospital policy.
- Attends 80% of all department meetings and required to review and initial all department minutes missed.
- Provides visualization of the operative site
- Utilization of techniques to assist with closure of body planes
- Selecting and applying wound dressings
- Assist with securing drainage systems to tissue
