Wyoming Surgical Center is currently hiring for two CST's. Wyoming Surgical Center is an Orthopedic Ambulatory Surgical Center located in Casper, Wyoming.
Wyoming Surgical Center has two operating rooms. The cases vary from upper and lower extremity, total joint replacement, and spine surgeries.
DUTIES
Uses principles of aseptic practice in varying situations, and initiates corrective action when breaks in technique occur.
Assists the perioperative team to facilitate a good outcome for the patient. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
Scrubs, gowns, and gloves according to established procedures.
Assists in proper preparation of supplies, medications, equipment and instrumentation involved in each patient’s case.
Take appropriate measures to maintain a patient’s dignity and privacy.
Follows established policies and procedures for counts, and takes corrective actions when counts are incorrect.
Acquires specimen from the surgeon. Acts with the circulating nurse to ensure that the specimen is labeled properly, and placed in the appropriate solution.
Assists the perioperative team with patient positioning to ensure proper body alignment, alleviating pressure on nerves, and vessels. Special attention is paid to adequacy of lung expansion, and exposure of the surgical site.
Assists in all aspects of decontamination, wrapping, and sterilization of instruments as need in sterile processing.
Assist with room turnover & assemble supplies for the following case.
Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, and informing appropriate persons.
Thorough knowledge of, and ability to implement principles of aseptic technique.
Understanding of principles of surgical positioning.
Knowledge of surgical instruments and equipment, including their use and care.
Knowledge of surgical procedures, techniques and accepted nursing interventions.
Able to recognize and assist in emergency situations.
Recognizes and reports malfunctioning equipment.
An awareness of hazardous materials present in the work setting, and actions taken in the event of a hazardous spill.
An ability to assess safety issues of the environment, and the ability to maintain a safe area for patients and employees.
Computer skills required for scheduling a patient for surgery, review of the surgery schedule, and identification and alteration of a surgeon’s preference card.
An ability to function in Sterile Processing as necessary.
Knowledge and understanding of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Ability to identify and categorize each patient’s age-specific grouping of needs for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
