Your role with us
As a surgical technologist at Salem Health, you’ll be a vital part of our dynamic operating room team, directly supporting high-acuity procedures that improve and often save lives. Working in one of the busiest Level II Trauma Centers on the West Coast, you'll assist in a wide range of surgeries, from open-heart and neuro to bariatric and trauma, across 18 state-of-the-art ORs. Your attention to detail, commitment to sterile technique, and ability to anticipate surgeon needs will help ensure every procedure is safe, efficient and precise. What you'll do
Prepare and maintain sterile fields, instruments, and equipment for a wide range of surgical procedures
Anticipate surgeon needs and respond quickly and precisely during operations
Perform surgical counts, manage specimens, and follow strict protocols for hand hygiene, time-outs and medication labeling
Assist in room turnover and maintain accurate preference cards for efficient workflow
Support surgeries in specialties including cardiac, neuro, ortho, general, urology, bariatrics and trauma
Work with advanced technology including Da Vinci XI robotic systems and image-guided surgical tools
Contribute to the care of diverse patient populations, from pediatric to geriatric
Mentor peers and participate in continuous improvement efforts within the department
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced, high-volume surgical environment

Background/experience
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) issued through the American Heart Association (AHA) and will follow any one of three paths:
Path I: Completion of an Accredited Educational Program
Completion of a surgical technology educational program accredited by a national accreditation organization that is approved by the Oregon Health Authority; and
Holds a current surgical technologist certification issued through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA); or obtains surgical technologist certification through the NBSTSA within twelve months of program completion.
Path II: Completion of a US Military Surgical Technologist Training Program
Provides documentation showing completion of a training program for surgical technologists in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps; and demonstrates that sixteen hours of approved continuing education was completed every two years.
Path III: Experience
Provides documentation demonstrating practice of surgical technology during at least two of the years between January 1, 2014, and January 1, 2017; and
If experienced in the state of Oregon, must also demonstrate that sixteen hours of continuing education was completed every two years since 1/1/2017
