Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions:

- The successful candidate must demonstrate experience, skills, and commitment to fostering an environment of belonging, diversity, equity and inclusion in students, faculty, and staff
- Surgical Technology, Surgical First Assisting and Sterile Processing program instructor Instructor will be responsible for teaching in-person section(s) at main campus, Saginaw campus and/or virtually
- Calibrate and contribute to the advancement of Surgical Technology, Sterile processing and Surgical first assisting
- Understanding of and ability to work with a diverse student population
- Use of email, internet-based resources, and common Office software
- Ability to teach in a variety of formats, including incorporating online learning systems
- Understanding of ADA requirements and willingness to create accessible materials
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Understanding Delta Mission/Vision/Values
- Demonstrate a philosophy of teaching that provides learning opportunities that meet the needs of all students.
- Establish and promote an engaging and inclusive learning environment to maximize student learning in both the face-to-face and online classroom.
- Focus on supporting and assessing student learning and academic achievement to promote student success.
- Must actively support student retention initiatives that promote program completion.
- Develop innovative, dynamic, and engaging learning environments that support student learning and success.
- Collaborate voluntarily and enthusiastically with colleagues in the academic discipline and with other faculty colleagues to develop effective learning experiences for a diverse student body.
- Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of diversity based on the college statement on diversity.
- Serve the community through outreach activities.
- Commit to ongoing educational and professional growth.
- Engage fully in course, discipline, program development, curriculum development and assessment.
- Attend and actively participate in discipline, division, and college meetings.
- Capable of using a learning management system to deliver course material.
- Demonstrate teaching effectiveness which supports student learning and encompasses pedagogies for student success to meet course and/or program requirements.
- Work in a variety of settings which promote quality learning.
- Maintain professional development to assure currency within field of practice.
- Possess excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Surgical Technology
- Health-related Bachelor degree
- Graduate of an education program in surgical technology that is also accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification from the NBSAST
- Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) certification from the NBSTSA
- BLS certification (current or upon hire)
- Minimum total of three years of experience in the operating room scrub role and/or assisting role within the past five years
Additional Experiences Considered:
- Masters degree preferred
- Teaching experience in the related field preferred
- An ability to teach in a variety of formats including online.
- Pedagogy is informed by belonging, equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Bilingual
