Responsibilities
As a Surgical Technologist II or III, your main duties will involve:
Performing advanced knowledge and proficient practice in the scrub role for most surgical procedures.
Conducting pre-operative duties, including performing a surgical scrub, donning OR attire, and acquiring personal protective equipment (PPE).
Getting the operating room and sterile field ready for surgical procedures by applying sterile technique.
Setting up the sterile back table and Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medication/solutions needed for the procedure.
Helping team members put on gowns and gloves, as well as aiding with draping the patient and setting up the sterile field.
Performing appropriate intraoperative counts (instruments, sponges, needles), and labeling all medication.
Participating in the surgical site and patient verification during the "Time Out" process.
Supporting the surgeon by handing over supplies, equipment, or instruments, sponging or suctioning at the operative site, and managing specimens.
Controlling and maintaining perioperative environments, including asepsis, electrical safety, waste management, and traffic patterns.
Demonstrating clinical proficiency and technical skills for general and special populations.
Demonstrating knowledge about the equipment used in assigned areas, including care, handling, operations, troubleshooting, and safety precautions.
Cleaning and readying instruments for sterilization after surgery is completed.
Supporting the surgical team by cleaning the operating room after the surgery is finished.
Reducing the risk of patient harm resulting from falls by observing patients for fall risks and taking preventive actions.
Improving the accuracy of patient identification by using two identifiers when transporting patients between units/departments.
Supporting the surgeon in 2 or more procedure specialties.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Additionally for the Surgical Tech III, meeting all the criteria for a Surgical Tech II, demonstrating superior knowledge and expertise in the scrub role in advanced surgical procedures and in a variety of surgical equipment and advanced surgical instrumentation. Performing as a preceptor and role model. At the direction and supervision of a surgeon or registered nurse, preparing the operating room and the sterile field for surgical procedures. Prepares sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment using sterile technique. Confirms that instruments function properly and have been properly sterilized. Maintains the availability of instruments and supplies to avoid delays.
Primary Shift: Day Shift, variable start times · Hours worked per pay period: 36 hours, plus call requirement.
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have:
A High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
A Vocational/Technical Diploma, including the ability to verify on-the-job training from a participating institution.
Two years of surgical tech experience (preferred).
